There's going to be a new leader of the offense for the Miami Hurricanes next season and people couldn't be happier that it's going to be Carson Beck. There are some enormous shoes to fill with Cam Ward off to the NFL, but the hype surrounding Beck is quite exciting.
This is something head coach Mario Cristobal knows all about. While speaking to the media for the first time in 2025, the veteran coach was of course asked about the new star signal-call who is now on campus. Cristobal praised Beck for his mindset both on and off the field:
Mario Cristobal is thrilled QB Carson Beck has signed with Miami
"He's athletic, he's smart, he's got superior arm talent," Cristobal said via Inside The U. "He's accurate, he can extend plays. He could also sit in the pocket. He runs well. He is really - he's a great human being, and he has demonstrated leadership qualities, and he's really hard on himself, and he wants to be great. One of the best qualities is he wanted to be here at Miami. That's gaining more and more value as we head into this next generation of college football. You got to want guys that want to be Miami Hurricanes as bad as they want to do and be anything else - the guy that's really geared and convicted upon having team success. We see all those qualities in him and certainly looking forward to working with him."
Not long ago, Beck was planning to enter the NFL Draft and get started on his pro career. However, he had a change of heart and decided that he wants to play one more season of college ball. Could he follow the same path that Ward did? That path was returning to college for one final season and boosting NFL Draft stock. Ward is now projected to be the No. 1 overall pick.
Beck is coming off UCL surgery, but he's set to be ready for the start of fall camp. Until he's fully cleared to start throwing, Beck will get a head start at learning his new playbook and getting to know his teammates now that he has already made the move to Miami.
With Beck now in town, Miami is considered the favorite to win the ACC next campaign and book its trip to the College Football Playoff. Should he post a strong year too, Beck could end up being taken in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, which is something Cristobal and Co. would obviously love to see.
