"The talking is over. It's time to play ball," Cristobal said on the Joe Rose Show early Monday morning.
The Hurricanes kick off the 2026 season Friday night against Stanford at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Cardinal, led by first-year coach Tavita Pritchard, beat Hawaii 37-27 on Saturday.
The depth chart is still a work in progress
Cristobal is still working on finalizing the depth chart as the Hurricanes approach gameday. Monday and Tuesday are built to look like the padded Tuesday and Wednesday of a normal game week, and playing time is still being earned in those practices.
Miami is turning to a new group on the defensive line that includes Ahmad Moten Sr., Armondo Blount, Marquise Lightfoot, Justin Scott and Damon Wilson II. He said they have prepared for the job and that it is "time to go."
Mario Cristobal praises new QB Darian Mensah
Cristobal called him "unfazed" and pointed to the way Mensah prepares, tries to make the players around him better and treats winning as the only priority.
Cristobal singled out WR Joshua Moore
Cristobal said Moore has shown explosive traits in camp and has not backed down from being pushed in a competitive WR room that has a lot of talent.
Stanford will be playing its second game of the 2026 season
Michigan transfer Davis Warren completed 22 of 34 passes for a career-high 310 yards and a touchdown in his Cardinal debut. RB Micah Ford also scored three rushing touchdowns.
Stanford led 23-7 in the fourth quarter, but Hawaii stormed back and scored three times to take a 27-23 lead late in the game. Warren completed all five of his passes on a 58-yard drive that Ford finished from the 2-yard line with 1:41 left. Tevarua Tafiti returned a fumble 31 yards for the final score.
