MaxPreps' top 10 running backs for 2026 include a future Miami Hurricane

MaxPreps released its top 10 running backs heading into the 2026 high school season, and Miami fans have a reason to pay attention.

One of the Hurricanes' own 2027 commits made the cut, sitting alongside the reigning national player of the year and a Texas back closing in on a state record. Here's the full countdown from writer Zack Poff.

10. David Segarra III

Segarra is a four-star back who ran for 1,460 yards and 17 touchdowns on 174 carries as a junior. He's committed to LSU.

9. Ty Keys

Keys is Miami's guy on this list, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound back who turned in one of the best single-game performances in the country last season, rushing for 506 yards and eight touchdowns on just 18 carries in a 60-54 win over Hancock.

He's part of a 2027 class that already includes five-star cornerback Donte Wright and five-star quarterback Israel Abrams.

8. Kevin Hartsfield

Hartsfield is the lone underclassman on the list, a junior who ran for 1,302 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging more than 12 yards a carry. He's uncommitted.

7. Gary Walker

Walker ran for 1,669 yards and 20 touchdowns. He's committed to Clemson.

6. Myson Johnson-Cook

Johnson-Cook rushed for 1,341 yards and 20 touchdowns last season against one of the toughest schedules in high school football. He's a 6-foot-3, 220-pound back committed to Auburn.

5. Honor Fa'alave-Johnson

Fa'alave-Johnson is one of the more complete two-way players on the list, accounting for more than 2,000 all-purpose yards and 30 touchdowns on offense while adding three interceptions on defense. He's committed to USC.

4. SaRod Baker

Baker authored one of the best postseasons in Texas state history, rushing for 1,619 yards and 21 touchdowns in six playoff games while leading DeSoto to a state title. He's committed to Texas Tech.

3. Kemon Spell

Spell missed five games as a junior and still ran for 1,755 yards and 28 touchdowns, while also picking off two passes on defense and scoring three special teams touchdowns. The versatile back is committed to Georgia.

2. Landen Williams-Callis

Williams-Callis was named the 2025 Texas Player of the Year after rushing for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns and leading Randle to a state runner-up finish.

1. David Gabriel Georges

Georges is the reigning MaxPreps National Player of the Year, and it's not hard to see why. He led Baylor to its first undefeated season since 1973, rushing for 1,749 yards and 27 touchdowns, and he clinched national player of the year honors with a 417-yard, seven-touchdown performance in a 56-35 win over McCallie in the semifinals. Georges is committed to Tennessee.
