Mario Cristobal continued stacking defensive linemen on the Miami roster after the Hurricanes flipped four-star 2025 edge rusher Hayden Lowe from USC on Wednesday. Miami moves up to the 10th-ranked 2025 class with the addition of Lowe who is now the top commit for the Hurricanes.

Lowe is the 189th ranked prospect, 17th edge rusher and 18th player in California out of well-known Westlake Village Oaks Christian. Lowe is the third edge rusher committed to the 2025 Miami class. Four-star Herbert Scroggins and three-star Mykah Newton previously committed to Miami.

In an extensive interview with On3, Lowe stated Miami prioritizing him in recruiting and the ability to work with defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor played a major role in his decision to flip to the Hurricanes. Miami will sign a top-10 edge rusher for the fourth consecutive class.

Miami has proven the ability to develop edge rushers. Rueben Bain was the 2023 ACC Rookie Defensive Player of the Year. Bain projects as a top 10 2026 NFL Draft Pick. Lowe is the 23rd commit in the 2025 Miami class. Miami has 11 offensive players and 12 defensive prospects committed for 2025.

Miami has shown a willingness to play freshmen under Cristobal with Bain the prime example, especially on the defensive line. Cornerback O.J. Frederique has been exceptional as a true freshman for a Miami secondary that has often struggled in 2024.

Miami will lose Elijah Alston and Tyler Baron as edge rusher after the 2024 season. True freshmen Armondo Blount, Marquise Lightfoot and Cole McConathy will be expected to take major steps forward in their development as edge rushers in their sophomore seasons in 2025. Blount can also play defensive tackle.

Lowe took his official visit to Miami the weekend of May 31 after previously visiting Coral Gables in March. Cristobal and his staff continue to flip players in November. Miami flipped running back Jordan Lyle and defensive tackle Justin Scott from Ohio State in November 2023. The Early National Signing period is from December 4-6.
