Miami 2026 commit Jontavius Wyman was honored as the defensive back most valuable player at the Rivals Camp Series five-star event held in Indianapolis last week. Greg Smith of Rivals praised Wyman for standing out amongst a deep group of DBs.
Smith stated Wyman got his hands on the ball more than anyone else and forced quarterbacks into bad throws. Rivals lists Wyman at 6'1 and 175 and projects him as a nickel in college. Smith observed Wyman has the traits colleges and NFL scouts are looking for.
Smith closed, stating Wyman baited QBs into dangerous throws and consistently won in jump ball situations. Wyman had 32 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, two interceptions, three pass breakups, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble as a junior for Jonesboro, Georgia High School in 2024, per MaxPreps.
Wyman is part of a deep group of CBs in the 2026 Miami class. Four-star prospects Camdin Portis and Jaelan Waters are also committed to Miami in the 2026 class at CB. Miami is building a deep and elite secondary for the future that includes bringing in five transfer DBs.

"The defensive backfield was so deep and nearly all of them made noteworthy plays but Jontavius Wyman got his hands on the ball more than everyone else and consistently forced quarterbacks into bad throws.Greg Smith Rivals
The Miami commit isn't the biggest defensive back but he has all the traits college and NFL scouts are looking for β elite movement skills, long arms, excellent football instincts and good ball skills.
There were multiple plays where Wyman baited quarterbacks into dangerous throws. Despite measuring in under 6-foot, Wyman consistently won in jump ball situations as well"
Wyman is the second-ranked nickelback in the 2026 Rivals rankings. None of the other major recruiting sites have nickels ranked separately from CBs or safeties. In this era, having good play at nickel is critical to cover slot receivers.
The occasionally porous Miami secondary cost them a College Football Playoff berth during the 2024 season. Mario Cristobal has made the secondary a priority during the 2024 offseason in the transfer portal and with the 2026 class. New Miami CBs coach Zac Etheridge led the flip of Wyman from Georgia.
Portis, Waters and Wyman will join an elite group of CBs in the 2025 class. Jaboree Antoine, Chris Ewald and Amari Wallace in the 2025 class teamed with Poris, Waters and Wyman, giving Miami a bright secondary for the future. Cristobal built his roster from the inside out and the secondary was the last unit.
Wyman has the chance to exceed some of the projections for him from sites other than Rivals. Cristobal has shown a willingness to play freshmen. O.J. Frederique was a three-star signee in 2024 who became a Freshman All-American last year on a unit that otherwise struggled.
