Miami Activating Camouflage Uniforms Versus Stanford on Saturday

The Miami football accounted posted to social media this week that "Camo mode: activated" and a picture of the uniforms the Hurricanes will wear versus Stanford on Saturday.

Miami will wear camouflage uniforms for its game against Stanford on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami announced the new uniforms on social media with the message "Camo mode: activated πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ πŸ™Œ" with a photo of the new uniforms.

The new uniforms are a complete departure from the traditional colors Miami wears of green, orange and white. Miami is using the occasion of the new uniforms as "honor and support" as a tribute to everyone who has served in the American military.

Miami will wear a black helmet with a camo jersey and pale green pants. The uniforms were created by Adidas exclusively for Miami and Washington. Miami is wearing these uniforms this weekend, as this is the weekend the traditional military appreciation game is held by the Hurricanes.

Miami is home closer to Veterans Day when it hosts Syracuse on November 8 and North Carolina State on November 15. Veteran's Day is November 11 in the United States. The inside of the U Logo on the Miami helmet features camouflage.

The Hurricanes' "Honor and Support" threads mark a tribute to those who have served in the military. Details include a camouflage pattern on the jersey and an American flag patch on the sleeves, with pale green pants. A black helmet also features the school's classic "U" logo in camouflage coloring."

Miami is spelled out above the facemask and on the back of the helmet. Linebacker Wesley Bissainthe and his number 31 were used as the model for uniforms on Miami's social media accounts. ESPN included Miami among their "top Week 9 college football uniforms."

Miami first wore Military Appreciation Day' Alternate Football Uniforms in 2015. The 2015 Military Appreciation Day uniforms were black. Miami beat Virginia 27-21 in the military tribute uniforms under interim head coach Larry Scott.

The choice of camouflage uniforms has been somewhat controversial. Miami departed the airplane on the tarmac of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport ahead of their 14-7 1987 Fiesta Bowl loss to Penn State in a game that determined the 1986 National Championship.

While honoring the military with the camo uniforms, Adidas and Miami also create another opportunity for fans to buy jerseys. In 2015, Miami donated game-worn jerseys and helmets that were auctioned off to benefit the Miami VA Health Care System.
