South Carolina Upstate infielder Vance Sheahan posted to social media on Monday morning his intent to transfer to Miami. Sheahan was first-team All-Big South in 2025 and named the conference Freshman of the Year following the 2024 season.

In 2025, Sheahan hit .328 with a .399 on-base percentage a .522 slugging percentage and a .876 OPS with 16 doubles, 12 home runs, 57 runs batted in and 25 stolen bases. South Carolina Upstate won the Big South regular season and tournament to earn the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history.

Clemson and Kentucky eliminated South Carolina Upstate in two games in the NCAA Tournament. In two years at South Carolina Upstate, Sheahan hit .321, had a .396 OBP and slugged .480 with 14 home runs 76 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. Sheahan has a .939 career fielding percentage with 21 errors.

The West Palm Beach, Cardinal Newman alum is returning home by transferring to Miami. Sheahan is likely to replace junior shortstop Jake Ogden, who is eligible for the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. Ogden set the table for Miami as the 2025 leadoff hitter. His play was often referred to as Ogden ball.

There are similarities between Ogden, who played in 2023 at Barry University and 2024 at North Carolina-Greensboro before transferring to Miami for the 2025 season and Sheahan. Ogden had a .313, .385, .482 and .867 slash line at UNCG in his first season of Division I before transferring to Miami.

Ogden stole 16 bases at UNCG and 13 to lead Miami in 2025. Third baseman Daniel Cuvet and Ogden tied for the Miami team lead with 84 hits. Sheahan will help Miami build a foundation in 2026 with Cuvet and freshmen starting pitchers A.J. Ciscar and Tate DeRias leading a strong 2025 freshman class of contributors.
