Miami added length to a position of need with 6'3 Arizona cornerback Emmanuel Karnley as a transfer on Thursday. Karnley is the 70th-ranked transfer and sixth CB in the portal per the 247Sports rankings. Karnley is the fifth transfer addition for Miami in the 2025 class, the third defensive back and second CB.
Miami previously added Jacksonville State safety Zechariah Poyser and Michigan State CB Charles Brantley to its 2025 roster. Karney will rejoin his former Arizona teammate, safety Isaiah Taylor on the Miami roster. The addition of Karnley moves Miami up to the 21st-ranked 2025 transfer portal class.
Karney had 15 tackles and five passes defended in 10 games this season. Arizona suspended Karnley for the final game of the regular season after he spit on a TCU player the week before. After playing in only one game with Arizona in 2023, Karnley received a redshirt and will now have three years of eligibility remaining.
Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U reported Karnley allowed "22 catches on 43 targets for 288 yards with four touchdowns allowed and five pass breakups" in 2024. Miami has excellent depth at CB entering the 2025 season with Brantley, Damari Brown, O.J. Frederique and Karnley.
Miami has gone heavily on defense early in the 2025 transfer portal. Louisiana Tech defensive David Blay and LSU wide receiver C.J. Daniels are the other two Miami transfer additions for 2025. Miami is far from finished in the transfer portal. Several other players who have visited Miami have yet to make decisions.
Miami loses CB Darryl Porter and safety Mishael Powell who completed their eligibility and CB Robert Stafford who transferred to UCLA. The Hurricanes need far better production from their CBs in 2025. Adding Karnley gives Miami excellent size to cover big receivers in the future.
