Miami alum Kyshawn George erupted for a career-high 34 points to lead the Washington Wizards past the Dallas Mavericks, 117-107, on Friday night in Dallas. The second-year wing drilled seven 3-pointers and added 11 rebounds as Washington earned its first win of the season and dropped Dallas and No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg to 0-2.
George's line was efficient: 11-of-15 from the field, 7-of-9 from deep and 5-of-5 at the line in 35 minutes, with four assists, three blocks and two steals. The 6-foot-8 former Hurricane also hit the dagger— a corner three that pushed the margin to 113-103 inside two minutes.
George opened Year 2 with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists on 7-of-15 shooting (3-of-6 from three) in a 133–120 loss to Milwaukee. He was Washington's No. 2 scorer behind Khris Middleton (23), showing lots of potential even as Giannis Antetokounmpo (37 points, 14 boards) controlled the game.
Two nights after the Dallas outburst, George was quieter but still impacted the box score: six points on 3-of-7 shooting, eight rebounds and five assists in 25 minutes before fouling out in a 139-113 defeat. Charlotte flipped an 11-point halftime deficit behind LaMelo Ball's 38-point triple-double to pull away late.
Kyshawn George's rookie year (2024–25) with the Wizards was a steady, rotation-level campaign that grew as the season went on. The 2024 first-rounder appeared in 68 games with 38 starts, averaging 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 26.5 minutes. He added 1.0 steal and 0.7 blocks per game, while shooting 37.2% from the field, 32.2% from three and 75.3% at the line.
George's play is a point of pride in Coral Gables. He spent the 2023-24 season at Miami, averaging 7.6 points on 40.8% from three before entering the 2024 NBA Draft. The New York Knicks selected him 24th overall and immediately dealt his rights to Washington. It's a long season, but George is starting off Year 2 strong.
