Four-star wide receiver Dontay Tyson Jr. of Peoria High School in Arizona has trimmed his recruitment to eight schools, a list that includes Miami, Tennessee, Washington, Texas, Texas A&M, Southern California, Arizona and Oklahoma.

4-star WR Dontay Tyson Jr.

Tyson is listed at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, and he is ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in Arizona in the Rivals Industry rankings. Tyson has 109 career receptions for 1,448 yards and 18 receiving touchdowns through three varsity seasons.

His sophomore season in 2024 was the first big jump. Tyson posted 45 catches for 647 yards and seven touchdowns, then added 22 rushing attempts for 133 yards. He also scored on a punt-return touchdown that season. As a junior in 2025, Tyson logged 37 catches for 448 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games.

Tyson also was a track and field state qualifier as a ninth grader in both the 100 and 200 meters. He has personal bests of 11.10 in the 100 and 22.49 in the 200.

Miami's biggest selling points

Over the last two seasons, Miami has been a destination for skill position players. While Mario Cristobal has a general focus in the trenches, the outside guys have not been ignored, and the offense has been strong.

In 2024 it was No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward leading the way. That offense was No. 1 in scoring in the nation. Fast forward to this season, and it's now Carson Beck running the show. Despite the QB change, and Miami losing its top-six pass catchers, the offense has still been able to put up numbers.

That is attractive to any young WR looking to make a name for themselves. Also, it doesn't hurt that freshman Malachi Toney was one of the WR's that stepped up, showing that Miami's coaching staff will put you on the field if you are truly good enough.
