Miami and Notre Dame both stayed perfect (the Hurricanes were on a bye) through Week 6 and continue to be destined for a November showdown that will define the college football season. Here's a look at how both teams are playing, the injuries they are dealing with, and what's ahead.

Both teams remain undefeated after Week 6

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

No. 2 Notre Dame improved to 6-0 with a 58-7 rout of Stanford at Notre Dame Stadium in Week 6.

Running back Jonaz Walton set a program record for most rushing yards by a true freshman in a game, finishing with 181 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard run that was the third-longest offensive play in Notre Dame Stadium history.

Quarterback CJ Carr completed 14 of 20 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 41 yards. The Irish scored on plays of 97, 70, 40, 31 and 30 yards, led 37-0 at halftime and finished with 361 rushing yards while holding Stanford to 202 total yards.

Notre Dame has now won 16 consecutive games, all by double digits. Through six games the Irish average 44.0 points per game (fourth nationally) and allow 11.0 points per game, with a defense that ranks first in the FBS in total defense at 167.2 yards per game allowed and third in rushing defense at 51.7 yards per game.

Miami Hurricanes

No. 3 Miami was on a bye in Week 6 and sits at 5-0 (3-0 ACC) on the season. Through five games Miami has outscored opponents 248-49, ranks first nationally in rushing defense at 42.6 yards per game allowed and first in total offense at 549.6 yards per game.

Quarterback Darian Mensah has thrown for 1,438 yards, 15 touchdowns and zero interceptions for an 84.2% completion rate and 212.2 passer rating. The bye gives Miami a chance to get healthier before hosting Florida State on Oct. 17.

Injuries for Miami and Notre Dame

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

  • Cornerback Leonard Moore (concussion) was out against Stanford after suffering the injury in the North Carolina game. Moore, a unanimous All-American last season, has eight tackles and four pass breakups in the games he has played this year.
  • Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (left thumb) also missed the Stanford game.
  • Longer-term absences include safety Brauntae Johnson (left foot), defensive tackle Jason Onye (left ankle) and wide receiver Quincy Porter (left knee).
  • Tight end Ty Washington missed the game with an illness.

Miami Hurricanes

  • Running back Marty (CharMar) Brown and wide receiver Joshua Moore remain out for the season after injuries suffered against Wake Forest.
  • Edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot, who leads the team with five sacks, left the Clemson game midway through and did not return.
  • Cornerback OJ Frederique has been out since the opening drive of the Stanford game, and cornerback Ja'Boree Antoine has been out since before the season.
  • Offensive linemen Max Buchanan and Matt McCoy briefly left the Clemson game but returned. Buchanan had surgery after the game and his season looks to be done..

The remaining schedules before Nov. 7

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

  • Oct. 17: at No. 8 BYU (5-0)
  • Oct. 24: Bye
  • Oct. 31: vs. Navy (at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.)
  • Nov. 7: vs. Miami

BYU is 5-0 and ranked No. 8 after a 24-10 win over Iowa State and the game will be the first top-10 matchup in LaVell Edwards Stadium history.

Miami Hurricanes

  • Oct. 17: vs. Florida State (3-3)
  • Oct. 24: vs. Pitt (5-1)
  • Oct. 31: at North Carolina (3-2)
  • Nov. 7: at Notre Dame

Florida State is 3-3 after a 44-20 loss at Louisville in which Isaac Brown rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Pitt is 5-1 after a 21-17 home loss to North Carolina; quarterback Mason Heintschel is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Holden Geriner started in his place.

North Carolina is 3-2 after its road win at Pitt, which was Bill Belichick's first win against a ranked opponent at the school.

ESPN's College GameDay

College GameDay is already locked in for Notre Dame's matchup against BYU in Provo. That makes a second Notre Dame appearance three weeks later for Miami on Nov. 7 less likely, but if the Fighting Irish pull out a victory, and both teams remain undefeated, there really is no other option that makes sense for ESPN.
