Miami will tip-off at 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time at Mississippi in the ACC/SEC Challenge on December 2. This will be the third year of the ACC/SEC Challenge. The ACC and SEC Split the first year, with each conference winning seven games.

In 2024, the SEC dominated by winning 14 of the 16 games played in the challenge. This will be the first year of the ACC/SEC Challenge that Miami will not play a team coached by John Calipari. Miami lost to Calipari at Kentucky in the 2023 ACC/SEC Challenge and to Arkansas in Coral Gables in 2024.

Mississippi has also lost both of its games in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Georgia Tech beat Mississippi 67-59 in the 2023 ACC/SEC Challenge in Atlanta. Louisville won 86-63 over Mississippi at the KFC Yum Center in the 2024 ACC/SEC Challenge.

New Miami head coach Jai Lucas is making his collegiate debut as a head coach in 2025-26. Chris Beard is entering his third season as the head coach at Mississippi in 2025-26. Beard and Lucas are connected through their histories of coaching at Texas and as Longhorn alums.

Beard was a student manager and graduate assistant at Texas under head coach Tom Penders from 1991 through 1995. Beard returned to Texas as the head coach from 2021 through 2023. Texas fired Beard early in the 2022-23 season. Miami defeated Texas and interim head coach Rodney Terry in the 2023 NCAA Tournament Regional Final.

Beard and Lucas both attended high school in the Houston area. Lucas played at Texas from 2009 to 2011 and served as an assistant coach with the Longhorns from 2016 to 2020. Beard referred to Lucas as a friend when the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge matchups were announced in June.

Mississippi finished 24-12 in 2024-25. The Rebels won an NCAA Tournament game for the first time since 2015 and advanced to the Regional Semifinals for the second time in program history in 2025. Mississippi previously advanced to the 2001 Regional Semifinals.

Miami and Mississippi split and home-and-home in 2011 and 2012 with each team winning on their homecourt. The Hurricanes won 86-76 in Coral Gables in 2011 and lost 64-61 in overtime in Oxford. Miami and Mississippi are both projected to play in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
