Multiple reports on Wednesday stated Miami alum and current Dolphins' cornerback Artie Burns left practice with what is feared to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Burns was entering his first season with the Dolphins and ninth in the NFL.
Burns was the 25th pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he remained through the 2019 season. After four seasons with Pittsburgh, Burns signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bears in March 2020. Burns tore his ACL in a preseason game with Chicago in 2020.
After missing the entire 2020 season, Burns re-signed with Chicago and played in 11 games during the 2021 season. The Seattle Seahawks signed Burns in March 2022. Burns played three games with Seattle in 2022. Seattle released Burns in August 2023 before signing him to the practice squad.
Burns was signed to the Seattle active roster in September and played 14 games with the Seahawks in 2023. In 2024, Burns played four games with Seattle in 2024 that also included two stints on the practice squad and being placed on injured reserve with a toe injury.

Burns signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins in March. Injuries have limited Burns since 2019 after playing in all 48 games with 21 starts during his first three seasons in the NFL. Burns has played in 42 out of a possible 84 games with seven starts since the 2019 season.
At 30 years old and with a history of injury problems, Burns' career could be in question. Rehabbing from a torn ACL at 30 and for a second time would likely be challenging. Burns most productive seasons came in his first two years in the NFL, when he recorded 119 of his 199 career tackles and all four of his interceptions.
