Miami assistant coaches rank among best recruiters nationally and in the ACC

Offensive line coach Alex Mirabal led the Miami assistant coaches ranking among the best recruiters nationally and in the ACC.

Led by offensive line coach Alex Mirabal, Miami assistant coaches finished among the best recruiters in the ACC and nationally. Mirabal finished ninth nationally and first in the 2026 ACC recruiter rankings. Miami finished with five of the top 25 recruiters in the ACC.

Joining Mirabal in the top 25 recruiters in the ACC on the Miami staff are wide receivers coach Kevin Beard, defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, defensive line coach Jason Taylor and tight ends coach Cody Woodiel. Miami signed the top class in the ACC for the fourth consecutive year.

Mirabal was the primary recruiter for Miami signing five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, four-star OT Ben Congdon and interior offensive lineman Joel Irvin and three-star prospects, IOL Canon Pickett, JJ Sparks and Rhys Woodrow.

Beard finished eighth in the ACC as the primary recruiter for Miami signing four-star WRs Somourian Wingo and Vance Spafford and three-star Tyran Evans. Beard was also the primary recruiter for Miami signing 2025 ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Year Malachi Toney.

Winning at the line of scrimmage

Hetherman finished as the 17th best recruiter in the ACC and was the lead recruiter for Miami signing four-star edge rusher DeAnthony Lafayette and linebacker Karsten Busch and three-star LB Justin Edwards. Miami has had an exceptional turnaround defensively in 2025 in Hetherman's first season

Taylor finished 20th in the ACC and was the primary Miami recruiter for four-star edge rusher Asharri Charles and three-star defensive lineman Tyson Bacon. Taylor was the secondary recruiter for Miami signing Lafayette.

Woodiel finished 25th in the ACC and was the primary recruiter for Miami signing four-star TEs, Gavin Muller from South Elgin, Illinois and Israel Biggs from Clovis, California. Miami was one of two programs to sign top 20 TEs in the 2026 class. Georgia signed three of the top 10 2026 TEs.

Miami signed the 10th-ranked class nationally. The 2026 class is the third time in the last four recruiting cycles that Miami has finished in the top 10 classes in the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami should continue to dominate the ACC recruiting rankings under Mario Cristobal.
