No. 1 Miami (8-0, 6-0 ACC) visits No. 11 Notre Dame (7-1) at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday in one of the biggest games of the college football season. The Hurricanes are looking to remain undefeated and protect their No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff standings, while the Fighting Irish are searching for a signature victory to strengthen their resume.

The Hurricanes have won the last two meetings in the rivalry, including last season's 27-24 victory at Hard Rock Stadium, but have not won in South Bend since 1984.

Miami will also face its toughest test of the season without star wide receiver Malachi Toney, who suffered a high ankle sprain during Wednesday's practice.

Miami vs. Notre Dame: Game prediction

Notre Dame presents a difficult matchup for Miami, especially without Toney. The Fighting Irish rank first nationally in total defense, allowing just 236.3 yards per game, and have surrendered only two sacks on offense all season. But Miami still has one of the nation's best quarterbacks in Darian Mensah, who has thrown for 2,425 yards, 25 touchdowns and just one interception.

The Hurricanes will need significant contributions from running backs Mark Fletcher Jr. and Jordan Lyle, along with their remaining receiving options, to replace Toney's production. Miami's defense will also face its own challenge against quarterback CJ Carr and an Irish offense averaging 40.4 points per game.

Even without Toney, Miami has enough offensive talent to keep the game close and make plays in the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes have repeatedly found ways to win, and they will do it again tonight.

Final score prediction: Miami 30, Notre Dame 28
