Miami has an average projected seed of 7.81 in the ESPN consensus "College Football Playoff predictions: Who's most likely to make the field" posted just before midnight on Saturday. Ten out of the 11 ESPN writers project Miami with a seed of six or lower.

David Hale, who primarily covers the ACC for ESPN, is their only writer who projects Miami to still have a first-round bye as his fourth seed. Eli Lederman projects Miami sixth in the CFP seeding as the next highest prediction behind Hale.

Andrea Adelson, who frequently works with Hale covering the ACC and Max Olson project Miami as a seven seed. Jake Trotter is the only other ESPN writer who projects Miami with a home game in the CFP as an eighth seed.

The other six ESPN writers project Miami as a ninth seed in the CFP. Miami has a median seed of nine. Oregon is the most projected common opponent for Miami. That game, per the ESPN projections, would be in Eugene.
