Miami baseball continues hot streak beating Florida International

Miami continues to be scorching hot with a win over Florida International on Tuesday to extend its long winning streak.

Miami earned its sixth consecutive win with a 10-6 victory over Florida International on Wednesday night in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes ended a two-game losing streak to the Panthers with the win on Wednesday. Miami had a 7-2 lead after six innings and withstood an FIU rally to earn the win.

Daniel Cuvet continued his scorching play with four hits in five at-bats, three runs scored and five runs batted in. A three-run home run by Cuvet in the bottom of the eighth inning put Miami in front 10-6. Cuvet had hits in his last four at-bats on Wednesday night.

Miami leadoff hitter Jake Ogden had three hits in five at-bats with three runs scored and an RBI. Ogden hit a leadoff HR in the bottom of the first to give Miami the lead. Max Galvin went back-to-back with Ogden to make it 2-0 Miami. A triple by Bobby Marsh drove in Cuvet in the third inning to put Miami up 3-0.

A groundout and an infield single got FIU within 3-2 in the top of the fourth. Miami answered with a two-run single by Cuvet and an RBI single by Dorian Gonzalez to extend the lead to 6-2 after four innings. Gonzalez added a second RBI single in the sixth to give Miami the 7-2 lead.

Cole Cleveland hit a solo HR and Javier Crespo added a two-run double in the seventh inning to cut the FIU deficit to 7-5. FIU cut their deficit to one run on an RBI single from Brylan West to make it 7-6 Miami after 7.5 innings. West had eight hits in 19 at-bats with three RBIs versus Miami this season.

Cuvet's HR in the bottom of the eighth took a lot of pressure off of Miami closer Brian Walters heading to the ninth inning. Walters pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing three hits with a strikeout to earn his eighth save. Miami starter Reese Lumpkin pitched six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Miami plays a three-game series at Virginia starting Friday, The Hurricanes will take a six-game winning streak overall, 10 straight ACC victories and four successive conference road triumphs to Charlottesville. Miami is finished with 2025 mid-week games and hosts Notre Dame May 15-17 to finish the regular season.
