With losses in five of their last six games, Miami travels to Pittsburgh this weekend looking for its first 2025 ACC series win. Pittsburgh issued a statement on Thursday night that the series versus Miami will begin on Friday with the first game of a doubleheader at 1PM and the second game to follow about 45 minutes later.
Pittsburgh enters the weekend series 16-12 overall and 3-6 in 14th place out of 16 teams in the ACC. Miami is 15-15 overall and 2-7 and in 15th place in the ACC. Pittsburgh hosts Miami with a three-game losing streak. Miami leads the all-time series versus Pittsburgh 28-11, but lost the final two games in Coral Gables in 2024.
Pittsburgh is projected to start Patrick Gardner versus Griffin Hugus for Miami in game one. The Panthers will start Ryan Reed against AJ Ciscar for the Hurricanes in game two on Friday. Game three of the series remains scheduled for Sunday, with Drew Lafferty starting for Pittsburgh and Miami's starter to be determined.
Pittsburgh leadoff hitter Luke Cantwell is seventh in the ACC batting .406. Miami is 15th in the ACC with a 265 batting average and 13th with a 5.49 earned run average. Pittsburgh is 11th batting, .281 and 12th with a 5.32 ERA. Pittsburgh closer Ethan Firoved leads the ACC with six saves and is fifth with a 1.84 ERA.

Due to inclement weather predicted this weekend in Pittsburgh, we will be playing a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon starting at 1 PM.
Game two will start approximately 45 minutes following game one.
Miami enters the weekend 79th in the NCAA RPI and Pittsburgh is 47th. The Miami pitching rotation has changed with Hugus moving from the game two pitcher in the weekend series to game one. Ciscar is second after not beginning the season in the weekend rotation.
Nick Robert who began the season as the game one weekend starter, had two scoreless appearances out of the bullpen since being removed from the rotation. Brian Walters has struggled as the other weekend starting pitcher for Miami. Game three is tentatively scheduled for 1 PM Eastern time on Sunday.
