Miami baseball hosts Princeton: Game information and how to watch

The Miami baseball team will host Princeton this weekend after losing their first game this season at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday.

After losing 2-1 at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday, 3-1, Miami will return home to host Princeton for a four-game series this weekend. This is the season-opening series for Princeton. Miami started Nick Robert, Griffin Hugus and Brian Walters in their three-game sweep of Niagara last weekend.

Hugus pitched six innings, allowing one hit with one walk and 11 strikeouts to earn the win versus Niaraga and be named the ACC Pitcher of the Week. Robert pitched the season opener, going five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with no walks and four strikeouts.

Walters went five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Reese Lumpkin started and went 3.1 innings, allowing one hit and no runs with three walks and three strikeouts in the loss at FAU. Lumpkin also pitched in the season opener versus Niagara.

Pitcher Jacob Faulkner is a player to watch for Princeton. Faulkner was named to the "76-player preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association" per the Princeton website.

Faulkner was 8-1 with four saves, a 3.14 earned run average and pitched 66.0 innings, allowing 62 hits, 12 walks and 52 strikeouts and had two starts in 2024. In 2023, Faulkner was 3-3 with a 4.94 ERA and six saves. Faulkner was named first-team All-Ivy League in 2024 for his performance.

Infielder Jake Koonin is another player to watch for Princeton. Koonin led Princeton with a .319 batting average, 41 RBI, 66 total bases, a .528 slugging percentage and 11 stolen bases to earn all Ivy League honors. Princeton is coached by Scott Bradley who spent nine seasons in Major League Baseball as a catcher.

Miami leads the all-time series with Princeton 4-0. The Hurricanes won 22-6 in the 1985 Atlantic Regional in Coral Gables on their way to the College World Series title and swept a three-game series in 1999. Miami has only one mid-week game on Wednesday versus Florida Gulf Coast after playing Princeton.

All four games this weekend are available on ACC Network extra that is available to anyone who has the ACC Network. Friday night's game will start at 7 p.m. ET. Miami and Princeton will play a doubleheader with 2:30 and 5 p.m. starts and Sunday will begin at 1 p.m.
