Miami scored 10 runs in the fourth inning with the help of five Niagara errors on their way to a 14-2 win in the season opener on Friday night in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes were a bit slow to get going offensively before scoring one run in the second and two in the third before the fourth-inning eruption.

Designated hitter Bobby Marsh drove the Miami offense early in the game. Marsh had four hits in four at-bats with two runs scored, four runs batted in and two doubles. Marsh scored the first run of the game for Miami and drove in the second and third with a third inning double.

In the fourth inning, Marsh drove in two more runs with a single and scored again on an error. Six different Miami players got hits as only four of the Hurricanes' 14 runs were earned. Miami scored runs off of three different Niagara pitchers. Gage Wheaton started for Niagara and allowed three earned runs in three innings to take the loss.

J.D. Arteaga used 18 position players and six pitchers on Friday. Nick Robert pitched five innings allowing four hits, one earned run and four strikeouts to get the win. The other five Miami pitchers allowed four hits and one earned run with X strikeouts to help the Hurricanes earn the blowout win.

At the top of the order, shortstop Jake Ogden and second baseman Dorian Gonzalez combined for five hits and five runs scored as the other Miami players who had multiple hits on Friday night. Curtis McKay hit a solo home run and Jacob Brooks had an RBI single to produce the Niagara runs.

Miami and Niagara continue their series on Saturday at 6 PM and will wrap up their three games on Sunday at noon. Florida Atlantic will host Miami on Tuesday in the Hurricanes' only midweek game during the first week of the season.
