Miami basketball adds LSU big man Robert Miller III after coaching change chaos

Robert Miller III, a 6-foot-10 forward who spent the last two years at LSU, has committed to join Jai Lucas' program, giving the Miami Hurricanes another body up front as they build on last season's breakthrough.

Miller was a four-star recruit out of Pasadena Memorial High School outside Houston, where he finished as the program's all-time leader in points, rebounds and blocked shots.

He averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks as a senior, earned two-time District Defensive MVP honors, and was a finalist for both the Guy V. Lewis Award, given annually to the top player in the Houston area, and Mr. Texas Basketball Player of the Year.

The 247Sports Composite ranked him the No. 64 overall prospect in the 2024 class, while Rivals had him at No. 66 overall and the No. 8 power forward nationally.

As a true freshman in 2024-25, Miller appeared in all 32 games, made eight starts, and averaged 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15.6 minutes a night while shooting 61.5% from the floor. He took on a bigger role as a sophomore, playing 31 games and averaging 6.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 19.3 minutes. He shot 65.7% from the field and 69.9% from the free throw line without attempting a single three-pointer all season. His season high came against Texas A&M in SEC play, a 12-point outing.

Miller entered the transfer portal in April and was one of eight LSU players to do so after the school fired Matt McMahon and brought back Will Wade for a second stint as head coach. Wade previously led LSU from 2017 to 2022, including an SEC regular season title in 2019, before the school parted ways with him following an NCAA notice of allegations tied to recruiting violations.

Miller visited Miami in early April, and other programs, Arkansas among them, were also pushing hard for his commitment before he settled on Coral Gables.
