Miami basketball cancels ACC Tipoff due to Hurricane Milton
Miami guard Nijel Pack, forward Matthew Cleveland and head coach Jim Larrnaga will not appear at ACC Tipoff on Thursday as scheduled due to Hurricane Milton. Larranga was scheduled to speak on Thursday at 2:14 Eastern Daylight Time, followed by Pack and Cleveland.
New Miami Women's basketball coach Tricia Cullop appeared at ACC Tipoff on Tuesday with players Haley Cavinder and Jasmyne Roberts. ACC Tipoff is spread out over three days from Tuesday through Thursday. The Women met with the media on Tuesday and Wednesday and the Men are on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Men tipped off with ACC newcomer Stanford at 1:30 PM on Wednesday. ACC Tipoff for the men will continue through 4:30 PM Eastern Time on Thursday with Pittsburgh as the final team. Every ACC with the exceptional of Miami now is scheduled to appear at tipoff on Wednesday or Thursday.
Cleveland, sophomore guard Paul Djobet and Pack are the only returning players from the 2023-24 Miami roster. Seven Miami players transferred after last season and guard Kyshawn George left for the NBA where was the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 Draft by the Washington Wizards.
Cleveland was second on Miami averaging 13.7 points per game and 6.1 rebounds in 2023-24. Pack was third on Miami averaging 13.3 PPG and led the Hurricanes with 3.6 assists per game. Pack missed seven games due to injury. Djobet appeared in 16 games in 2023-24, averaging 2.6 PPG.
Miami signed the seventh best freshman class and brought in the 29th-best transfer class. Five-star guard Jalil Bethea highlights the freshman. Guard Jalen Blackmon, center Lynn Kidd and forward Brandon Johnson could start for Miami after transferring this spring.
Center Kiree Huie and guard A.J. Stanton-McCray project to be key rotational players off the bench. Miami should have an elite backcourt. Freshman Austin Swartz is talented but will have a difficult time breaking the Miami rotation in the backcourt.
