Miami is losing one of its two 2025 signees according to Joe Tipton of On3. Four-star, top 75 6'10 center Ben Ahmed has asked for his release on Thursday per Tipton. Ahmed is the number 74 prospect, seventh center and second player in Connecticut in the 2025 class out of Putnam Science Academy.

Ahmed is the second Miami signee to opt-out with the Hurricanes in less than a year. Michael Nwoko, a 6'10 center who signed with Miami in the 2023 class transferred to Mississippi State following his freshman year in 2023-24. Miami also signed guard Matthew Able during the Early National Signing period in November.

Miami currently has the 22nd-ranked 2025 class with just Able. Before Ahmed asked out of his commitment, he and Able made up the 11th-ranked class. With a new head coach and staff to be hired after the season, expect Miami to have a mass roster exodus in March and April.

Freshmen guards Jalil Bethea, Austin Swartz and Divine Ugochukwu, redshirt junior guard A.J. Staton-McCray, sophomore guard Paul Djobet and freshman forward Xander Alarie are the only player on the 2024-25 Miami basketball roster with eligibility remaining beyond this season.

The analysis on Ahmed from Jamie Shaw, the One Senior National Recruiting Analyst states Ahmed's game centers around the basket out to 15 feet. is a below-the-rim big, has excellent touch and is a good passer and solid rebounder. The questions about Ahmed center on his stamina and defense

Nine other programs, including seven in Power Conferences also offered Ahmed. California and Georgia Tech were the other ACC programs to offer Ahmed. The new Miami staff will start way behind in the 2025 class. Expect the Miami head coach and staff to add a significant amount of transfers to the 2025-26 basketball roster this spring.
