Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball is in the mix for top-tier point guard Taylen Kinney, who recently trimmed his list of schools to 12.
Kinney, a five-star prospect and consensus No. 1 point guard in the 2026 class per 247Sports, narrowed his field from 27 offers to a dozen schools: Miami, Louisville, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Xavier, Oregon, Kansas, Purdue, Tennessee, Indiana, Arkansas, Texas and Auburn. His next cut is expected by August 22, ahead of an early decision before the Overtime Elite season begins. Kinney is rated as the top player in the state of Georgia and No. 11 overall player.

At 6-foot‑2 and 185 pounds, Kinney excelled during the 3SSB Adidas circuit playing for Wildcat Select, averaging 17.1 points, 4.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 51.7% from the field.
His official visits include stops at Purdue, Louisville and Kentucky, with additional trips scheduled to Kansas, Indiana, Oregon, Texas and Arkansas this fall. Kinney hopes to decide on a school before the OTE season start so he can focus solely on development.
Miami’s inclusion in Kinney’s trimmed list reflects a rising footprint in national recruiting under coach Jai Lucas. Landing Kinney would mark a recruiting milestone, as he is widely projected to be a one-and-done prospect destined for early NBA entry. Lucas is aiming to rebuild the Hurricanes' basketball program after a disasterous season in 2024-25. The entire team from last year is gone and with Lucas — who is a very skilled recruiter — the sky appears to be the limit after a bit of recent offseason success.
This is the roster currently slotted to suit up for Miami in the upcoming season:

- SG: Tru Washington
- SF: Shelton Henderson
- PF: Malik Reneau
- C: Ernest Udeh Jr.
- Dante Allen
