Miami officially announced the additions of forward Timotej Malovec and point guard John Laboy to its 2025 class on Friday. Laboy is the third high school player in the 2025 Miami class that is 19th in the 247Sports rankings. Malovec is one of two international players in the 2025 Miami class, with 6'10, 270-pound Turkish center Salih Altuntas.
Laboy is a three-star prospect in the 2025 class out of Houston, Texas, St. Francis Episcopal School and is 51st PG and 39th in the Lone Star State. Laboy improved most of his numbers as a senior, averaging a career-high 14.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals.
In 37 games in 2024-25, Laboy shot 45.4 percent from the field, 71.9 percent on three-point attempts and 30.8 percent on three-point attempts. Through a press release from Miami, Hurricanes' head coach Jai Lucas stated he has known Laboy and his family through their shared Houston roots.
At 6'2 and 180 pounds, Laboy will provide Miami depth in the backcourt and a developmental player for the future. Miami previously signed four-star prospects, small forward Shelton Henderson and combo guard Dante Allen with Altunas and Malovec.
Malovec is a 6'8, 180-pound forward from Slovakia who played for Mega Superbet in the Adriatic Super League first division. In 30 regular season games, Malovec averaged 6.1 PPG and 3.8 RPG while shooting 44.1 percent from the floor, 36.5 percent on three-point attempts and 84.4 percent from the free throw line.
Henderson projects for Miami as a potential starter during the Hurricanes' inaugural season under Lucas. Allen could be in the back end of the Miami rotation as a freshman in 2025-26. Altunas, Laboy and Malovec provide Lucas and the Miami basketball program with developmental players for the future.
Miami signed six transfers from five Power Conference programs for 2025-26. Center Ernest Udeh Jr., power forward Malik Reneau and guards Tre Donaldson running the point and Tru Washington at the two are expected to start. Combo guard Jordyn Kee and power forward Mailk Allen add depth.
