Miami basketball's long road losing streak continues in loss at Pittsburgh

Miami's road woes continued on Saturday with a loss at Pittsburgh.

Miami lost its 13th consecutive game on the road with a 74-65 loss at Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Hurricanes fell to 5-19 on the year. Pittsburgh improves to 15-10 with the win and ended a two-game losing streak to Miami. The Panthers last beat the Hurricanes the last time the teams played in Pittsburgh in 2023.

Matthew Cleveland scored in single digits for only the second time in the last 15 games, as Miami struggled offensively overall. Miami shot 40.4 percent from the field and made only eight of its 26 3-point shots. Lynn Kidd led Miami with 16 points and 15 rebounds, A.J. Staton-McCray scored 13 and Brandon Johnson had 12.

Five Pittsburgh players scored in double-figures led by Ishmael Leggett with 21 points. Pittsburgh was playing without leading scorer Jaland Lowe. Pittsburgh shot 43.1 percent from the floor and made six of its 17 3-point attempts. The Panthers outscored Miami 17-6 in second-chance points and 34-20 in points in the paint.

Pittsburgh also had a 40-33 rebounding advantage. Leggett was one of two Panthers who had a double-double, with 10 rebounds and five assists to go with his 21 points. Forward Zach Austin had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers. Cameron Corhen had 17 and eight for Pittsburgh, Amsal Delalic had 14 and Brandin Cummings had 11.

Miami started well with a 21-13 lead in the first half. Pittsburgh caught Miami at 27 and led 32-30 at halftime. Miami trailed by two points multiple times in the second half, but was never able to tie the score. Pittsburgh pushed the lead to eight points midway through the second half and the lead remained at least six the rest of the way.

Miami remains on the road on Wednesday at Florida State. Clemson won 72-46 at Florida State on Saturday. Florida State won 80-65 at Miami in January. The Seminoles are 15-10 overall, 6-8 in the ACC and tied for ninth with Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh.
