The .211 winning percentage Miami currently has is the lowest in program history. Miami finished 8-24 overall for a .250 winning percentage an 1-17 in the Big East during the 1991-92 season for the worst season in program history over a full year. Two years later Miami finished 7-20 overall and 0-18 in the Big East.
The 117 points Miami allowed to SMU on Saturday were a program high for an ACC game. Miami ranks below 300th out of 352 teams in Division I basketball in four offensive categories and seven defensive categories. The loss to Stanford was Miami's eighth consecutive and their 15th in the last 16 games.
Not included in the 11 categories Miami ranks below 300th nationally in scoring margin. Miami has an average scoring margin of negative five per game which is tied for 319th nationally with North Carolina A&T. Miami won its four games by an averaging margin of 28.5 points per game.
Miami's 15 losses have been by an average margin of 13.93 PPG. The worst ACC record of 4-15 for Miami set during the COVID-impacted 2020-21 season is in serious jeopardy. Miami would have to finish 4-8 to match their four ACC wins in 2020-21 or 5-7 to eclipse that record. It is difficult to expect Miami to win five ACC games this season.
The 2024-25 season will be a memorable one for the wrong reasons. Jim Larranaga resigning in mid-season sent a clear message that he could not get through to his players in the name image and likeness and transfer portal era.
Miami assistant coach Kotie Kimble reiterated the difficulty of the coaching staff getting through to the players on the post-game after the Stanford loss. Finding players who will buy into to message of the coaching staff is critical in the future. Miami should have an entirely new coaching staff and potentially roster in 2025-26.
