Carson Beck steps into big shoes for the Miami Hurricanes football team, replacing Cam Ward as the Miami starting quarterback in 2025. Pro Football Focus ranked Beck No. 3 in its "College Football: Top 10 returning quarterbacks entering the 2025 season" published recently.

Cade Klubnik of Clemson is first and Sam Leavitt of Arizona State is second as the only returning QBs ranked ahead of Beck entering the 2025 season. After transferring from Georgia, Beck arguably has more big-game experience than Leavitt or Klubnik, even though they played in the College Football Playoff this past season.

Beck finished the 2024 season 13th nationally averaging 268.1 passing yards per game, 32nd with a 145.34 passer rating, 35th completing 64.7 percent of his pass attempts, 37th posting 7.8 yards per attempt and 14th with 28 touchdown passes. Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is expected to be a perfect fit for Beck.

Beck should not have to do as much to carry Miami offensively as he did with Georgia. Miami was 31st last season averaging 188.92 rushing yards per game. Georgia was 102nd in 2024, averaging 124.43 rushing YPG. Mark Fletcher Jr. and Jordan Lyle, who return for Miami in 2025, averaged 80.56 rushing YPG in 2024.

"After entering 2024 as PFF's top-ranked quarterback...Beck disappointed in his final year at Georgia before transferring to Miami...The redshirt senior’s 20 turnover-worthy plays this past season were tied for the sixth most in the country...Beck often forced throws due to the Bulldogs’ underwhelming receiving corps. Georgia’s 31 drops on the season were tied for the second most in the Power Four.

Beck still performed at a solid level (80.2 PFF passing grade in 2024)...His 90.9 PFF overall grade since 2023 is the second-best mark of any returning FBS quarterback. "
Max Chadwick, Pro Football Focus

Being the team leader for Miami is critical for Beck in 2025. Miami has an extremely young wide receiver corps in 2025. The Hurricanes lost their top six receivers from 2024. The addition of former LSU WR C.J. Daniels as a transfer provides Beck and the Miami passing game needed experience.

Expect Miami to attempt to add another transfer WR this spring. Beck was inconsistent throughout the 2024 season, but closed strong. In his last three 2024 regular season games, Beck threw for 941 yards, 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. Beck was injured and lost for the season in the SEC Championship game versus Texas.

Developing the WRs on the roster and potentially adding another WR for 2025 is critical to providing more dangerous threats for Beck offensively. Expect Miami to rely more on its rushing offense in 2025 with Fletcher, Lyle and an experienced offensive line returning. Getting Beck changed the trajectory for Miami in 2025.
