Miami received exceptional production from the top of its order and three pitchers shut down Georgia Tech in a 7-2 win on Saturday to clinch its third consecutive series. The Hurricanes scored two in the first inning and three in the third on their way to their fifth consecutive win.
Daniel Cuvet got Miami on the board with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. A Max Galvin double in the third made it 3-0 and Cuvet and Dorian Gonzalez added sacrifice flies to increase the Miami lead to 5-0. A.J. Ciscar pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run with no walks and seven strikeouts to improve to 2-1.
Georgia Tech chased Ciscar from the game in the sixth when they scored one run off of a Caleb Daniel double. Will Smith relieved Ciscar and induced a Carson Kerce double play with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth inning to strand two and keep Miami up by four runs.
A Jake Ogden HR in the eighth and a Fabio Peralta RBI single in the eighth put Miami in front 7-1 entering the ninth inning. Smith pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one hit with a walk and two strikeouts to maintain the big Miami lead. Georgia Tech scored a run in the ninth off of Alex Giroux, but that was it in a 7-2 Miami win.
