Virginia scored seven runs in the first four innings and held on for an 8-6 win over Miami on Sunday to sweep the series. Miami had a five-run seventh and had the tying runs on first and third with no outs after scoring a run in the top of the ninth but could not get any closer.

Daniel Cuvet continued to lead Miami offensively with three hits in five at-bats, a run scored, four runs batted in and a three-run home run in the seventh to spark the Miami rally. Cuvet's RBI single in the ninth inning scored Jake Odgen and advanced Max Galvin to third to put the potential tying runs on base with no outs.

Dorian Gonzalez and Jake Kulikowski struck out and Nolan Johnson flew out to center field to end the threat and the game. Ogden also had three hits for Arizona and Galvin, Gaby Gutierrez and Tanner Smith had one each. Henry Ford had three hits in three at-bats with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Ford gave Virginia the lead with a two-run HR in the first inning and he scored on a Jacob Ference single in the third to make it 3-0 Cavaliers. Virginia scored three more in the fourth that was capped by an RBI double from Ford to put the Cavaliers ahead 7-0.

An RBI double by Gutierrez and a run-scoring single from Ogden set up Cuvet in the seventh to get Miami within 7-5. Ford hit a solo HR to left field in the bottom of the seventh to extend the Virginia lead to 8-5. The first three batters for Miami reached base in the ninth inning before the rally halted.

Tomas Valincius pitched 6.1 innings to get the win for Virginia and Matt Lanzendorfer came in to get the final out for the Cavaliers and earned his fourth save. Miami will finish the regular season at home in a three-game series versus Notre Dame from Thursday through Saturday.
