Miami handled Bethune-Cookman 101-61 on Thursday night in the second game of the Jai Lucas era in Coral Gables. The 40-point Miami win over Bethune-Cookman was impressive, as the Wildcats lost in overtime at Auburn in the season opener on Monday.

Tre Donaldson led Miami with 23 points, made nine of his 11 shots from the field and had four assists. Malik Renaeau was over 20 points for the second consecutive game by making nine of his 12 shots from the floor and adding six rebounds, a team-leading five assists and two blocks.
Miami led 16-15 early in the first half before gradually pulling away to a 50-31 halftime lead. Donaldson scored 17, Reneau 12 and Tru Washington 10 in the first half for Miami. Jakobi Heady scored 11 in the first half and finished with 19 points for Bethune-Cookman.
Miami extended the lead to 60-33 with a 10-2 run to start the second half. The closest Bethune-Cookman would get the rest of the game was 20 points. Lucas was able to play seven players at least 20 minutes on Thursday night and another received 18 minutes of playing time.
Washington finished with 13 and true freshman Dante Allen scored 12 for Miami. Heady was the only player for Bethune-Cookman to finish in double figures for Bethune-Cookman. Miami shot 59.1 percent from the field and made eight of 17 three-point attempts.
Bethune-Cookman finished 31.8 percent from the field and made six of 28 three-point attempts. Heady was the only efficient player for Bethune-Cookman, making six of 13 from the field, four of seven three-point attempts and all three free throws. The rest of the Wildcats shot 34.9 percent from the field and made 3-21 three-point attempts.
Miami is off until Monday night when they host Stetson at 7:00 PM. Stetson lost 93-62 at Rhode Island on Monday in their season opener. Stetson hosts the University of Fort Lauderdale in its home opener on Friday night.
