Miami held Florida to 141 yards in a 26-7 win over Florida on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami outgained Florida 198 to 32 in the first half when they led 13-0. Florida outgained Miami 99-42 when they cut the deficit to 13-7 after three quarters.
Miami recalibrated and outgained 104-10 in the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes pulled away with two late touchdowns to seal the win. Florida quarterback D.J. Lagway completed 12 passes in 23 attempts for 61 yards with no TDs and no interceptions.
Florida had 29 carries for 80 yards rushing. Most of the Florida offense came on their one TD drive. In their first second-half possession, Florida had an 11 play, 80-yard drive in 6:12 to cut the Miami lead to 13-7. On their other 10 drives on Saturday night, Florida had 118 yards.
Miami forced punts on all six of the Florida first-half possessions. On five of the first six half possessions and the last two of the game, Miami held Florida to one set of downs. After Florida the game to a one-possession score, Miami held the Gators to 29 yards on 19 plays.
Florida had one first down in the first half. Miami held Florida to four first-half rushing yards on 10 carries. Lagway completed six passes in 12 attempts for 28 yards in the opening 30 minutes. Florida did not convert a first down in 13 attempts, but was three for six on fourth down against Miami.
Miami finished with seven tackles for loss and four sacks. The Hurricanes began the game forcing a three-and-out with a trio of consecutive tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Mohamed Toure led Miami defensively with 10 tackles, one TFL and one sack.
Miami is now 15th nationally, allowing 11.5 points per game and with opponents averaging 244.5 yards per game, 26th, permitting 76.25 rushing yards per game and 14th, giving up 76.25 yards per game. Miami had its best defensive performance against Florida since allowing 115 yards in a 62-20 win in 2024.
