Miami defensive line coach Jason Taylor became the latest South Florida celebrity to bang the drum for the Florida Panthers. Taylor took his turn banging the drum ahead of game three of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers.
Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo preceded Taylor as he banged the drum for game three of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday. Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith banged the drum before game four of the first round versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Dolphins defensive lineman Zach Sieler had his turn to bang the drum in game four of the Eastern Conference finals versus the Carolina Panthers among the other Dolphins who took part in the pre-game tradition. Florida won game four versus Tampa Bay, but lost game four versus Toronto.
Taylor was drafted in the third round, 73rd overall, in the 1997 NFL Draft from Akron by the Dolphins, who were coached by Hurricanes legend Jimmy Johnson at the time. In the first of three stints with the Dolphins, Taylor spent his first 11 seasons in South Florida.

Taylor played the 2008 season with Washington, returned to Miami in 2009, spent 2010 with the New York Jets and the final season of his NFL career with the Dolphins in 2011. Taylor spent the early part of his post-playing career as an analyst for ESPN.
In 2012, Taylor and former linebacker Zach Thomas (who is Taylor's former brother-in-law) were inducted into the Dolphins Ring of Honor. In 2017 Taylor became the 10th Dolphin overall and fifth in his first year of eligibility to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Taylor began his coaching career as the DL coach at legendary St. Thomas Aquinas from 2017 through 2019. In 2020 and 2021, Taylor was the defensive coordinator for St. Thomas Aquinas. Mario Cristobal hired Taylor as a defensive analyst for Miami in 2022, and he was elevated to DL coach in 2023.
Taylor has excelled as a DL coach for Miami and he has been an elite recruiter. Taylor finished fourth nationally in the 247Sports 2024 recruiter rankings. Miami signed what was considered to be the best DL class in 2024. The Hurricanes signed five-star DL Armondo Blount, Marquise Lightfoot and Justin Scott in the 2024 class.
