Miami outscored Southern Mississippi 54-30 in the second half to earn an 88-64 win on Saturday afternoon. Five Hurricanes finished in double figures, led by Malik Reneau led Miami with 21 points. Southern Mississippi scored the first eight points of the game and held the lead for 15:45 in the game.
A 17-2 Miami run in the second half extended the Hurricanes' lead to 64-46. Miami led by at least 15 points for the remainder of the game. The Hurricanes improve to eight wins and two losses with the win over the Golden Eagles. Miami has exceeded its win total of seven with the win over Southern Mississippi.
Southern Mississippi stayed in the game by shooting 50.0 percent in the first half and holding Miami to 35.5 percent from the field. Miami earned the convincing win by shooting 56.8 percent in the second half and holding Southern Miss to 38.5.
Timotej Malovec scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half for Miami. Tre Donaldson finished with 12 points and 11 assists for the Hurricanes, with nine and seven coming in the second half. Tre Washington scored 14 and Shelton Henderson 12 for Miami.

Miami outscored Southern Miss 46-32 in the paint and outrebounded the Golden Eagles 39-22. Ernest Udeh had nine points and 10 rebounds. Six different Miami players accounted for seven blocks and Miami had nine steals.
Miami played without Dante Allen, Marcus Allen and Noam Dovrat, who are out with injuries. Dante Allen is expected to be out for a few weeks. Jai Lucas used an eight-man rotation against Southern Miss with the roster limited by previously stated injuries.
Miami is off for a week before it hosts Louisiana-Monroe. Jai Lucas said he expects to continue relying on players playing heavy minutes until Miami gets healthy. Miami has three non-conference games before hosting ACC play against Pittsburgh on December 30.
