Miami rising sophomore defensive tackle Josh Horton is entering the transfer portal. Horton frequently battled injuries with Miami. In eight games in two seasons, Horton had 4.0 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Horton played in three games as a true freshman in 2023, taking a redshirt season.
Miami signed Horton as a four-star prospect in the 2023 class out of Fairburn, Ga. A year later, Miami signed five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott, who primarily plays defensive tackle and Armondo Blount, who can be an edge-rusher or be on the interior.
At 6-4, Horton is a big body on the interior of the DL who moves well laterally, according to 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins. Horton appeared to fall behind incoming transfer David Blay, returnees Ahmad Moten and Scott and true freshman Donta Simpson at DT on the Miami depth chart after spring practice.
Although Miami is young other than Blay and Moten, the Hurricanes should be deep enough to absorb Horton entering the transfer portal. Miami could target an experienced transfer DT this spring to add depth. The spring transfer portal is officially open from April 16-25.

Miami DT Josh Horton will reportedly enter the transfer portal
"Will likely need a few years to get his body right, but has some of the tools required to be a multi-year contributor and possible impact player at the Power Five level."247Sports on Miami DT Josh Horton
Horton was part of the 2023 Miami class that finished seventh nationally. Horton is the third out of four defensive linemen who signed with Miami in the 2023 class to enter the transfer portal. Edge rushers Collins Acheampong and Jayden Wayne left Miami for the transfer portal in 2024 and have both since transferred twice.
Miami signed what was considered the consensus top 2024 DL class. Miami signed four edge rushers in the 2024 class that included five-star Marquise Lightfoot and three four-stars plus Blount, Scott, four-star DL Artavius Jones and three-star Daylen Russell. Miami signed three edge rushers and Simpson on the DL in the 2025 class.
