Miami fell below a bye in the updated ESPN College Football Playoff projections after week nine.

The average seed for Miami fell to 8.08 in the updated College Football Playoff projections by ESPN. Four ESPN writers project Miami as a seven seed, three have the Hurricanes as an eight seed and five as a nine seed. Five teams are projected as the first-round opponent for Miami in the CFP.

The most common CFP opponent for Miami in the ESPN projections is BYU. Andrea Adelson and Heather Dinich project Miami as a seven seed hosting 10th-seeded BYU in the first round. David Hale projects Miami as a nine-seed at eighth-seeded BYU.

Adam Rittenberg and Dave Wilson project Miami as an eight seed hosting ninth-seeded BYU. BYU and Miami are tied for 10th in the week 10 Associated Press Top 25. The USA Today Coaches Poll ranks Miami ninth and BYU 10th.
