Miami fans are vindicated after Giants rookie Francis Mauigoa posts clean NFL debut

Giants rookie guard Francis Mauigoa made his NFL debut against Dallas and looked like he is going to be a staple on the offensive line for years to come. He played 36 pass-blocking snaps, allowed 0 pressures and allowed 0 quarterback hits. He is the first rookie since 2018 to record 35 or more pass-blocking snaps in Week 1 without allowing a pressure.

The performance came in a 28-20 win Sunday night at MetLife Stadium, which was also John Harbaugh's first game as Giants coach.

New York ran for 165 yards, held the ball for more than 36 minutes and gave Jaxson Dart enough time to complete 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

Francis Mauigoa proves that the Miami faithful knew what they were talking about

The Giants selected Mauigoa 10th overall in April after three seasons as Miami's starting right tackle. The Giants moved him to right guard from the start of the offseason, with Jermaine Eluemunor remaining at right tackle next to him and Andrew Thomas, Jon Runyan Jr. and John Michael Schmitz filling out the rest of the line.

His first regular-season opponent across the line was Cowboys defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, an All-Pro interior rusher. It could have been his "welcome to the NFL" moment, but he answered the call.

Mauigoa allowed no pressures on 23 pass-blocking snaps across two preseason games before a stinger cost him nearly a week of practice. It is a very positive sign that he was able to play the way he did on Sunday, but Miami fans have been saying that he is the real deal for an entire year.

Going into last season, the Canes knew what they were good at. The 2025-26 team was built on the offensive and defensive lines and that was the case all the way through the CFP. Now Giants fans can rest assured that Mauigoa is officially just as advertised.
