Miami thumped Syracuse 38-10 on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. What lingered afterward wasn't the score so much as a string of viral moments starring Orange head coach Fran Brown — mid-game chirping with Mario Cristobal, a postgame exchange with Michael Irvin, and a tunnel back-and-forth with a heckler — clips Canes fans shared with joyous glee as the holiday season is in full swing.
The first flashpoint hit before halftime when TV cameras caught Cristobal and Brown jawing from across the field during a stoppage. Multiple outlets posted the sequence as it aired, and officials eased the tensions between the benches. Cristobal later downplayed it as competitive heat, but the video — Cristobal pointing, Brown barking back — was obviously going to make its rounds on social media.

If that was all that happened, then this would have been a complete non-story. But, of course, things continued.
After the final whistle, another clip made the rounds: Brown walking toward Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin near midfield and appearing to tell the Miami legend not to "get used to this," with an expletive muffled on the audio. Irvin, who is an absolute superfan of Miami Hurricanes football, handled just about as well as anyone. The verdict: Brown was doing too much and Irvin took the high road.

The finale came in the tunnel. A separate video shows Brown snapping back at a taunting fan who referenced his now-famous "winners get washed" line about refusing to shower after losses. Fan hecklers should never get a pass, and in this case nobody is mad that Brown responded, but after a long day of antics that was paired with a loss, it was an unfortunate way to go out.
Miami and Syracuse don't meet every year, but the last two matchups have delivered some unique and consequential moments. That might be something to look forward to in the future between these two programs.
