Miami still appears to hold the edge for five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, but Hurricanes fans should not ignore what is going on this weekend.

The Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas standout, and Rivals' No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2027 class, is back at Texas A&M for another spring visit and will stay through the Aggies' Maroon & White Game on Saturday.

Miami has led for much of this race, but Texas A&M has kept hanging around, and another lengthy trip to College Station shows that this battle is not finished yet.

Texas A&M gets another shot at Miami target Mark Matthews

Matthews already visited Texas A&M once this spring, and this return trip is his final spring visit before he decides whether to make a commitment soon or carry the recruitment further.

Texas A&M's spring game is set for Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m. CT at Kyle Field. Texas A&M enters Thursday with the No. 1 2027 class in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Matthews measures in at 6-foot-5, 300-pounds, and the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine still favors Miami.

Matthews was a visitor for Miami's 305 Day, and then he returned to Coral Gables again on April 2 as part of a busy spring travel schedule that also included LSU and Georgia stops.

247Sports ranks Matthews as the No. 3 overall prospect and No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2027 class. Matthews anchored a St. Thomas Aquinas offensive line in 2025 that helped power the Raiders to a 14-1 record, a seventh straight Florida state championship and a No. 1 finish in the final High School Football America rankings.

MaxPreps named Matthews to its Junior All-America Team and he also later participated in both the Under Armour All-America Game and Polynesian Bowl as an underclassman.
