Miami football can take full advantage of Texas A&M's coaching staff distraction

Texas A&M seems to be losing staff left and right to other jobs, and it could benefit Miami in its College Football Playoff matchup.

Miami is set to take on Texas A&M in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The Hurricanes will travel to College Station, home of the 12th Man, to take on the Aggies in what is deemed a controversial matchup. After all the debacle of Miami getting into the CFP over Notre Dame, the Hurricanes have simply put their heads down and begun preparing for their road to the National Championship.

Texas A&M was one of the top teams all season long, remaining undefeated until their final game of the season, where they dropped to their rival, Texas. That loss dropped the Aggies out of the first-round bye field and down to a spot where they would still get to host a playoff game.

Mike Elko;s staff, however, seems to be leaving left and right as offensive coordinator Collin Klein will be heading back to his Alma Mater to become the head coach at Kansas State. It was also just announced that defensive coordinator Jay Bateman will be heading to Kentucky to join Will Stein's staff as the offensive coordinator there.

While Klein will fulfill his duties at Texas A&M, Elko has already made a change at the defensive coordinator position in College Station. Elko has decided to promote Lyle Hemphill to the DC position.

Texas A&M staff changes could benefit Miami in CFP matchup

The change at defensive coordinator may not be as big a deal as Klein splitting his attention. Elko was already calling the defensive plays for the Aggies this season, so a change at the DC position was expected, especially after Bateman's contract ended at the end of the season.

Texas A&M is currently an early favorite in this first-round matchup over Miami, but the Hurricanes have been a sneaky team all season and are currently playing their best football. These distractions could prove to be perfect for Miami to come in and upset the higher-ranked Aggies, and truly prove all the doubters wrong, saying the Hurricanes didn't belong in the playoff.
