Help is on the way for the much maligned Miami secondary

The secondary was a primary focus for Miami in the 2025 class and the Hurricanes have four signees who could make an impact next season.

The 2025 Miami class is led by four four-star signees in the secondary. Cornerbacks Jaborree Antoine, Chris Ewald and Amari Wallace are expected to boost the Miami secondary in the future. Four-star safety Bryce Fitzgerald adds depth at safety to a position that underperformed in 2024.

The performance by true freshman O.J. Frederique during the 2024 season should inspire Antonie, Ewald, Fitzgerald and Wallace to compete to earn playing time in 2025. Fitzgerald is the seventh-ranked 2025 Miami signee, the third-highest on defense and the top in the secondary.

Rising sophomore Zaquan Patterson and incoming Jacksonville State transfer Zechariah Poyser project as the Miami starting safeties in 2025. Miami could also continue adding depth at safety through the transfer portal. Jaden Harris and Markeith Williams return to add depth.

Frederique returns as one starting CB. Dyoni Hill is back to add depth. Miami added Charles Brantley from Michigan State and Emmanuel Karnley from Arizona at CB to its 2025 roster. Brantley and Karnley are being brought in to likely start with Frederque in 2025.

Ewald is the 203rd ranked prospect, 19th CB and 29th player in Florida out of Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. Ewald had 135 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions and 48 passes defended in his high school career. Ewald and the 2025 Miami freshmen CBs could have a chance to contribute immediately.

Wallace is the 371st ranked prospect, 35th safety and 53rd player in Florida out of Miami Central. Wallace had 73 tackles, 2.0 TFLs, 11 passes defended, one interception, one forced fumble and two blocked punts primarily as a sophomore and junior before sustaining a season ending injury this summer.

Fitzgerald is the 133rd prospect, 11th safety and 22nd player in Florida out of Miami Columbus in the 2025 class. Fitzgerald had 30 tackles, seven interceptions, four passes defended, one forced fumble and one recovery. Miami adds depth at a needed position with the addition of Fitzgerald.

Antoine is the 171st prospect, 16th CB and fifth-ranked player in Louisiana out of New Iberia Westgate. At 6'1 and 170 pounds, Antoine provides Miami with good length at CB, but he will need to develop more physically. Expect one of the Miami freshmen CBs to make an impact in 2025.
