Late last week, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal got some fantastic news out on the recruiting trail, with 4-star defensive back Jaylen Scott announcing his Top 5. At the time, the touted prospect was down to Miami, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
However, there's a new twist to things thanks to Lane Kiffin making the move to Baton Rouge. Shortly after Scott trimmed his list down to five finalists, LSU put an offer on the table and Scott said it was a huge offer from a 'dream school' for him. Because of this, it sure feels like things have changed here for the Mobile, Ala. product:

LSU and Lane Kiffin could beat out Miami for 4-star DB Jaylen Scott
Originally, we thought that Miami was going to have a great chance to land Scott after he announced his finalists. He has built a strong relationship with the staff and he surely took notice of the Canes going on a deep CFP run and advancing to the title game.
However, Kiffin putting that tender on the table sure has changed things up a bit. Now, you've got to assume that the next order of business for the Tigers will be to get Scott on campus for an unofficial visit as soon as possible.
Scott was once Tallahassee-bound, as he committed to Florida State in January 2025, but he then backed off that pledge in June. He then flipped to Auburn, but that decision didn't last long, as he then opened up his recruitment once again in December.
Will the third time be the charm in terms of him committing to a school and sticking to things? That may end up being the case, but it's unknown where he's going to go. Miami must have been feeling pretty solid about things just a few days ago, but Kiffin entering the race is a bit concerning. Scott, ranked the No. 10 safety in the country for 2027 per 247Sports, has some serious thinking to do.
