Miami football has obvious advantage over Notre Dame after Marcus Freeman's QB call

C.J. Carr should not worry anyone with the Canes

Notre Dame has their starting quarterback, and it should make Hurricane fans feel even more confident.

C.J. Carr is going to be the QB1 for the Irish, and word coming out of camp in South Bend is that the redshirt freshman was...ok? He didn't do a lot to separate himself from Kenny Minchey and many seem to think Minchey outperformed Carr, but he did enough I guess.

Carr won't be asked to do much, because he can't do much

Neither Carr nor Minchey possess enough tools to strike fear in the Hurricanes defense. We know what Notre Dame is going to be about on August 31. The Irish are going to try to pound the rock with Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. They are going to try to play good defense, force turnovers, win the battle of field position and control the clock.

Marcus Freeman knows that Carr isn't ready to carry the offense without a lot of help. He said as much earlier this week.

"You can practice as much as you want, but the game will be different," Freeman said. "We have to be able to protect them in the run and the pass game and have some success in terms of running the ball, but also the reads we ask that quarterback to make and help them make quick decisions, and defensively you've got to play well. That's how you help a quarterback on defense."

Doesn't sound like a coach that's really confident in his quarterback, does he?

Beck's experience gives 'Canes big advantage

This isn't to say that Carr can't eventually turn into something. He was a big-time prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, and he's been groomed for this position since he pledged to the Irish back in June 2022.

But this will be his second appearance in a college football game and the first time facing high-pressure situations on the road against a crowd and a team that is out for blood.

Miami has a major quarterback edge next Sunday. Carson Beck might be coming off of a major arm injury, but he has been through the battles. He has two years of starting experience in the SEC. He's won SEC titles. He's won the Orange Bowl. He has won in some of the toughest environments in the country.

Beck is ready to prove all the haters wrong. He wants to lead the Canes to the ACC title, the playoffs and compete for a championship. Then he's going to go to be selected high in the NFL Draft, regardless of what Field Yates thinks. The book is ready to be written.

Good luck Notre Dame, you'll need a whole lot more than a game manager to win at Hard Rock.
