Miami safety Isaiah Thomas a three-star signee with Miami in the 2024 class, has entered the transfer portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3. The official Miami website does not list Thomas as receiving any playing time in 2024. Thomas is the 13th Miami player to enter the 2025 transfer portal.

Miami signed Thomas as the 610th prospect, 56th safety and 81st player in Florida in the 2024 class out of Clearwater Academy International. Thomas was one of four safeties in the 2024 Miami class and the lowest rated by 247Sports. Miami also signed four-star safety Bryce Fitzgerald in the 2025 class.

Thomas missed his senior season of high school because of a torn ACL. Entering his next program, he will have gone two seasons without playing competitive football. At 6'2 "and 200 pounds, Thomas is a good size for a safety. Thomas joins Miami starting safety Jaden Harris in the transfer portal.

Miami returns freshman Zaquan Patterson and added Zechariah Poyser from Jacksonville State as the projected starting safeties in 2025. Incoming transfer cornerbacks Charles Brantley from Michigan State and Emmanuel Karnley from Arizona will also be new to the Miami secondary in 2025.

Miami has a strong incoming class in the secondary. In addition to Fitzgerald, Miami signed four-star CBs Jaboree Antonie, Chris Ewald and Amari Wallace in the 2025 class. O.J. Frederique was a freshman All-American in 2024 after developing quickly as a three-star signee.

Dylan Day, who was named a freshman All-American on special teams by Pro Football Focus and Ryan Mack return for Miami at safety entering their second season with the Hurricanes. Miami needs improved play from its secondary in 2025. Expect the secondary to be a continued focus for Miami through the 2025 transfer portal.

The transfer portal deadline was December 28 for teams whose seasons ended. Players who are still competing in the College Football Playoff or bowl games have until five days after their season ends to enter the transfer portal. Expect Miami to continue targeting players as the portal entries evolve.
