Jakobe Thomas returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown on Saturday to extend the Miami lead to 10-0 over North Carolina State in the second quarter. Keionte Scott had a 38-yard TD in the 38-10 win over Syracuse last week to extend the Miami lead to 14-0 in the second quarter.

Thomas followed up his pick-six with another interception on the following drive to give Miami possession on their own 45-yard line. The two interceptions by Thomas allowed him to pass true freshman Bryce Fitzgerald for the Miami team lead with four picks in 2025.

Depending on other performances on Saturday, Thomas could move into the top 10 for interceptions nationally and potentially a tie for third in the ACC. Thomas entered the game versus North Carolina State on Saturday with 40 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and fumble recoveries.

Thomas entered Saturday third on Miami in tackles, sacks and passes defended, fourth in TFLs, tied with Scott for first in fumble recoveries and leads the Hurricanes in forced fumbles. Miami entered Saturday tied for 33rd nationally with nine interceptions.

The Hurricanes can move into the top 20 nationally with the two first-half interceptions by Thomas pending other results. Thomas needs one more interception to tie the Miami single-game record that has been accomplished 12 times by 11 players.

Kamren Kinchens was the most recent Miami player to record three interceptions in a game. Kinchens had three interceptions, including a pick-six in a 35-14 win at Georgia Tech in 2022. Thomas has two interceptions in a game and a pick-six for the first time since he accomplished that for Middle Tennessee State in 2022 against Florida International.

The four interceptions for Thomas this season also tie his career high set at Middle Tennessee State in 2022. Thomas played for Middle Tennessee State from 2021 through 2023 and Tennessee in 2024 before transferring to Miami during the 2025 offseason.
