Miami gets another shot with 4-star linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield this week

Miami will get 4-star LB Jalaythan Mayfield back on campus Friday. The Lincolnton, North Carolina, standout announced he will return to Coral Gables on April 3, and that visit comes with a Miami OV already scheduled for May 29.

Rivals ranks him No. 92 overall, No. 8 among linebackers and No. 6 in North Carolina. 247Sports ranks Mayfield No. 39 at linebacker and No. 15 in the state, while the 247Sports Composite places him No. 207 nationally, No. 18 at linebacker and No. 8 in North Carolina. ESPN has him No. 205 in the ESPN Jr. 300, No. 13 at outside linebacker and No. 10 in the state. 

Mayfield's top five includes Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Miami and Oregon.

Mayfield has visits set for Indiana on April 17, Miami on May 29, Oregon on June 5, Georgia on June 12 and Kentucky on June 19. Rivals' predictions show Georgia leading at 23.2%, followed by South Carolina at 17.0% and Miami at 11.8%. At this point, Georgia and Miami have found themselves in multiple recruiting races over the last two cycles. The Bulldogs and Hurricanes have been a fun rivalry to watch on the recruiting trail.

In the 2025-26 season he posted 152 total tackles, 125 solo tackles, 11.7 tackles per game, 6.0 sacks, six forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He also put up 13 total touchdowns and 343 rushing yards.

In the 2024-25 season he logged 109 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two fumble-return touchdowns.
