Miami scored four runs in the first inning and nine in the second on their way to a 15-1 win over Notre Dame on Friday night to even the series at one game apiece. The Fighting Irish and Hurricanes will play the final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon.
After loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first inning, Miami scored the first run of the game on a Dorian Gonzalez sacrifice fly. Miami added three more runs on a Tanner Smith sacrifice fly. Daniel Cuvet scored on an error and a Renzo Gonzalez double to lead 4-0 after an inning.
Miami sent 15 batters to the plate in the nine-run third inning. A three-run home run by Dorian Gonzalez made it 7-0 Miami in the second inning. Jake Ogden also cleared the fence later in the frame and Gonzalez added an RBI single to conclude Miami's nine-run barrage.
Cuvet hit a two-run HR in the fourth and Miami had an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth. Davis Johnson hit a HR for the second consecutive night in the top of the sixth for Notre Dame to avoid the shutout. The game ended after seven innings due to the mercy rule.
Cuvet had three hits and four runs scored and Gonzalez had three hits and five RBIs to lead Miami. A.J. Ciscar pitched six innings, allowing the one run on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Jackson Cleveland retired all three Notre Dame batters with a strikeout in the seventh to close the game.
Miami and Notre Dame will play at 1 PM on Saturday. The Hurricanes improved to 31-22 overall and 15-13 in the ACC with the win. Miami enters the final day of the regular season a half game behind Wake Forest for eighth place in the ACC and a bye in the first round of the conference tournament.
