Miami has a ridiculous turnaround for NCAA 2nd round and odds are out vs. Purdue

Miami has a ridiculous, nearly 36-hour turnaround after beating Missouri 80-66 in the first round on Friday night. The NCAA announced shortly after Miami beat Missouri that they will tip off the second games on Sunday at 12:10 PM Eastern Daylight Time, 11:10 AM in St. Louis against Purdue.

Purdue defeated Queens College 1044-71 in the early evening game on Friday night. The second of eight games nationally on Sunday is between Kentucky and Iowa State comes after the Wildcats and Cyclones played afternoon games on Friday.

Miami beat Missouri in front of a largely partisan crowd on Friday night in St. Louis. Jal Lucas and his staff now have an extremely short turnaround to play Purdue. Playing Virginia in the ACC Tournament semifinals less than 24 hours after beating Louisville in the quarterfinals should help Jai Lucas and his staff prepare for Purdue.

Purdue is a 7.5-point favorite over Miami in the NCAA Tournament second round per the FanDuel Sportsbook odds on Sunday in St. Louis. Taking the points with Miami is -102. Laying the points with Purdue is -120. Miami is +250 on the money line and Purdue is -315. The over/under for Miami versus Purdue is 148.5

What to expect against Purdue

Miami out-rebounded Missouri 46-30 and had a 19-2 advantage in points in the paint. Purdue is second nationally, allowing 28.4 rebounds per game. Jai Lucas primarily played six players on Friday, with Noam Dovrat and Timotej Malovec each receiving less than five minutes of playing time.

The other six players for Miami each played over 23 minutes. Purdue is big and plays nine players. Miami needs to stay out of foul trouble and the Hurricanes' frontline will be tested by Oscar Cluff, Daniel Jacobsen and Trey Kaufman-Renn of Purdue, who are all 6'9 or taller.

Cluff averages 10.6 points per game and 7.4 rebounds and Kaufman-Renn posts 13.6 PPG and 8.5 RPG. Miami will need another big performance from Malik Reneau and Ernest Udeh up front. Reneau led Miami with 24 points and had six rebounds versus Missouri and Udeh paced the Hurricanes with 10 boards against the Tigers.
