Miami has a shot at being the best offense in all of college football this season

Miami's best argument to make it back to the CFP title game is its loaded offense.

Miami projects to be one of the nation's best offenses in 2026. The Hurricanes have the quarterback, the returning star receiver, the transfer class, the running back depth and enough OL talent to make Shannon Dawson's offense harder to defend than it was during last season's national championship run.

New QB Darian Mensah carries the torch

Miami's offense begins with Darian Mensah.

After a wild transfer process, Miami secured the successor to Carson Beck. Mensah arrives from Duke after throwing for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns last season. He now walks into a roster with more high-end skill talent than he had at Duke — and a situation with a lot more pressure.

Cam Ward took the Hurricanes offense to another level when he was at the helm. Beck helped Miami play for a national title. And Mensah will attempt to finish the job and bring Miami to the promise land.

Miami added WRs that can be difference makers

The Hurricanes added receivers who can help take the pressure off of Malachi Toney.

Cooper Barkate followed Mensah from Duke after catching 72 passes for 1,106 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cam Vaughn comes to Miami after catching 35 passes for 541 yards and four touchdowns at West Virginia. Vandrevius Jacobs is now in Coral Gables after he averaged 17.1 yards per catch at South Carolina and finished with 32 receptions for 548 yards and four touchdowns.

Malachi Toney is a potential Heisman trophy candidate

Toney had one of the best freshman seasons in Miami history, setting school records in receptions and receiving yards. His 1,324 yards from scrimmage came through screens, motion, intermediate routes, jet action and designed touches that allowed Miami to treat him like more than a slot receiver.

That type of player changes how a defense aligns before the ball is snapped. If Miami's WR additions can take some of the focus off of Toney, he could be a Heisman finalist.

The running back room returns major production

The running back room has its own case to be one of the better groups in the ACC.

Mark Fletcher Jr. returns after rushing for 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025. CharMar Brown returns as the third-down back and gives Miami another dependable option in protection and as a receiver. Girard Pringle Jr. returns after averaging 6.0 yards per carry in 2025 and he still has room to grow as a sophomore.

The RB trio will be crucial to a balanced offense. For as good as the offense projects to be, Miami won't want to force Mensah to throw 40 times in a game if it doesn't have to.

The offensive line is new but should be solid under Miami coaching

The concern around the offensive line is something to watch, but it also just so happens to be the specialty of Miami's staff. Miami lost four offensive line starters from last season: Francis Mauigoa, Markel Bell, Anez Cooper and James Brockermeyer.

There is talent in the room. Matthew McCoy and Samson Okunlola are experienced. Jamal Meriweather arrives from Georgia. Jackson Cantwell is a five-star freshman who could start right away. Ryan Rodriguez, Max Buchanan, SJ Alofaituli and others are part of the group that Alex Mirabal has to reshape quickly.

Miami can have the quarterback and all the skill talent it wants, but the offense will not reach its top level unless the line holds up. But the odds of Miami — who is known for the trenches under Mario Cristobal — having a good OL group are high, even if most of the starters are new faces.
