Miami has significant move in both polls after statement win over Notre Dame

Miami moved up in the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls following their week one win over Notre Dame.

After beginning the season ranked 10th in both polls, Miami moved up five spots to fifth in the Associated Press Top 25 and three spots to seventh in the USA Today Coaches Poll following their 27-24 week one win over Notre Dame.

Miami received 1,304 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Hurricanes are the highest-ranked team in the ACC. Clemson dropped from fourth to eighth after their loss to LSU on Saturday. Texas dropped five spots to fifth after their week one loss at Ohio State.

Texas has 1,339 points. Defending National Champion Ohio State moved up to first with 1,666 points and received 59 of the 67 first-place votes. Clemson has 1,067 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll with 1,038 points. SMU is 16th and Florida State 19th as the other teams in the ACC in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The win over Notre Dame was the first for Miami over a top 10 opponent under Mario Cristobal. Florida, whom Miami hosts on September 20 is 15th in the USA Today Coaches poll. Louisville and South Florida are the only other 2025 Miami opponents to receive votes in the USA Today Coaches poll.

The Cardinals are 27th in the week two USA Today Coaches poll and are at Miami on October 17. South Florida is 39th in the USA Today Coaches Poll with six points and plays at Miami on September 20. South Florida plays at Florida on Saturday.

Miami received 1,360 points in the AP Top 25. Ohio State is first in the AP Top 25 with 1,636 points. Penn State, LSU and Georgia are the other teams ranked ahead of Miami in the AP Top 25. Georgia received 1,410 points in the AP Top 25. Notre Dame dropped three spots to ninth in the AP Top 25.

Oregon is one spot behind Miami with 1,302 points in the AP Top 25. Florida moved up two spots to 13th, Florida State is 14th and SMU is 17th in the AP Top 25. Louisville is 30th in the AP Poll with 59 points and South Florida is 33rd in the AP poll. No other 2025 Miami opponents received votes in the AP Top 25.

Miami will host Football Bowl Subdivision Bethune-Cookman at 7:00 PM on Saturday on ACC Network extra. Bethune-Cookman lost 41-9 at Florida International in their 2025 season opener on Saturday. Miami has won all seven games in the series against Bethune-Cookman.
